Whiteheadia bifolia
Hyacinthaceae
January-February
the genus Whiteheadia is monotipic with only one species: W. bifolia. This species grows in the southern parts of Namibia and the Southafrican province North Cape. Whiteheadia is closely related to Massonia. When looking at the leaves of both genera you see directly the relationship. As Massonia Whiteheadia bifolia forms 2 opposite, spreading leaves. The flowers are born in a raceme (Massonia flowers are born in an umbel) with a very short penducle. The perianth segments are green and vert small.
